The Ninth Commandment: God's will How to Manage Our Words

148

Intro. God will ask an account of our “stewardship of our words” (Matt 12:36)
A. We use nothing more than ‘words'

B. We also abuse nothing more than God's gift of ‘words'

  1. Were created as vehicles to minister – love – share (Prov. 15:4)
  2. We have perverted them into vehicles to fight – hate – destroy

I. The problem of our tongue

A. James warns about the dangers of the tongue: James 3

B. The problem with our tongue is therefore rooted in our heart (James 4:1-10)

II. The redemption of our tongue
A. The ‘sanctified' tongue is only the fruit of a ‘regenerated – sanctified heart'

B. The faith in God's sovereign control over everything is to silence our tongue

CLOSING DIRECTIONS:
A. Let's follow David's examples throughout the entire day

  1. Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips

  2. O LORD, open thou my lips: and my mouth shall show forth thy praise

  3. Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have showed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to everyone that is to come.
