Leading the Church to Purity
Part I

Main Idea: Because the Church is attacked by false teachers, leaders must lead!

They must understand the enemy

 Characteristics of Cretan false teachers (10-12)
Insubordinate (10)
Empty talkers (10)
Deceivers (10)
Frequently legalistic (“circumcision party”) (10)
Disruptive (upsetting whole families) (11)
Greedy (11)

 Characteristics of Cretans: Always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons) (12-13a)

They must act

 Rebuke the Cretans (and the false teachers) sharply (13b)

 Teach purity vs. defilement

Purity is ultimately a matter of the heart (15)

Defilement is also ultimately a matter of the heart (15)

They must trust God to produce true purity in the body—resulting in good works!

Application

We must get our hearts right in order to get our actions right—
and only GOD can do that!
