Train Up a Child

Many misconceptions exist regarding Proverbs 22:6 - "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Some think it refers to a child's personality bent, for which there is no evidence. Some read into the word training something akin to dog training (Michael Pearl). Many treat it as an absolute promise. And most assume it refers to a salvation promise. In this sermon, I will discuss why it can't be a promise of salvation for children if only the proper training is applied. I will also address what I think is the true meaning. Then we will consider the weighty and sobering responsibility of parents.
