Esau is Edom

This passage is presented as a reminder to Israel that they need to watch their relationship with the Edom for Edom is their brother. It also serves as a reminder of the faithfulness of God in keeping His promises. While Esau was unfaithful in obedience- By making Esau a nation God was faithful in his promise to Jacob.
