Young people often see their parents' instruction as unnecessary and their rules as arbitrary. But the godly father of Proverbs is giving his son instruction, encouragement, and even rebuke to save his life later on. Young people need to bind the instruction of their godly parents to their hearts. Rejecting godly instruction indicates arrogance, and will only lead to God's chastening.
