Misplaced Mercy

Jonah was called by God to warn the Ninevites (Assyrians) of impending judgment if they did not turn to God in repentance. Jonah at first refused to go, instead taking a boat the other way to escape from God's commission. Ultimately, Jonah obeyed God but hated the fact that God was willing to show compassion to a people who had been Israel's enemy for so long.

God wants no one to perish, including the Ninevites. Who are your Ninevites? Who is it you do not want to see come to the Lord? Do we wrongly and sinfully harbor this attitude instead of reaching out to all people?
