The Imperatives of Grace

172 ( 154 | 18 )

What should a life that has been liberated from judgement, encompassed by grace and filled with the Spirit of sonship look like in a world where the truth of God and the life of faith are constantly contested? This fast flowing flood of imperatives sets out a surprising vision of what it is for the people of God to no longer be conformed to the pattern of this world but instead to live in the steady hope of those who humbly reflect His mercy in all that they are about.
It reveals the intensity of love and zeal, the depth of fellow feeling and the power of good to overcome evil that we are commanded to live in, as those who are united to Christ and yet live in a world that is not always amiable towards those who bear His name.
This is not a set of impossible demands but Spirit enabled possibilities of a life that no longer dances to the tune of this world. Here is a call to endure suffering and to be at peace with others including your enemies - not to retreat from the world but to overcome evil by doing good – knowing that where wrath is called for, we let it be God’s and not the evil revenge of our own hearts.
