The Mercy of God in Propitiation

50

When Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, He was in extreme agony. He desperately wanted relief from the insupportable torment He was going through and the sufferings He was about to face. One thing is clear -- the sin Jesus was about to bear and the punishment that came with it, was no small, light and easy thing. What Jesus did was to bear our sins and then suffer the inexpressible wrath of God that those sins deserved. Jesus made propitiation for the sins of His sheep. He propitiated God on their behalf. He satisfied the demands of the Law and of justice for them. His mercy is great.
