In Life And Death My Comfort is…

74

Proposition: The sovereign Lord has declared that “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Heb. 9:27). Yet through His grace He has overcome death as well as the evil plans, devices, and actions of men in this world. His overruling providence is the basis of Paul’s declarations that “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Ro. 8:28) and “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Cor. 15:55-58).

I. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” (Psalm 116:15)

II. God’s sovereignty brings comfort

III. God’s sovereignty is the basis of hope
