Paul's Purpose in Writing Romans

As Paul begins his letter to the Romans, he begins by expressing his appreciation to God for the reputation the Romans have attained. Paul knows that every church is the object of spiritual attacks and he wants to help this church grow to spiritual maturity through this letter. Having not been to Rome, Paul desires to have the opportunity to both evangelize the lost and to help grow the faithful saints to spiritual maturity . . . to "enjoy some spiritual fruit" among them. Paul is grateful for the Romans and desires to have an opportunity to be encourage by them.
