Heb # 15 Dull of hearing Heb 5 vs 9-14

  1. God demands that all men not come to Him empty handed and yet He does not accept any kind of gift or offering that anyone brings that is not what He has given.

  2. Christ was appointed of God to be the High Priest to offer gifts and sacrifices for sin for all His people. He continues to represent them before God-and is superior in all things that respect salvation-even His salvation is eternal-He is the source of it-and has entered into the very presence of God on behalf of the sinner.

  3. The believer has something to offer to God that is acceptable because God has given them Christ and His righteousness.

  4. So, the believer does not appear empty handed before God. Anyone who does not have the righteousness of Christ freely imputed has nothing to offer to God that is acceptable no matter how much stuff they bring. Their necks are to be broken.

  5. God desires for His people to grow in the knowledge of Christ. He is not pleased when they continue to need milk instead of the solid food of the gospel.

  6. The strong meat (heavy doctrine) is for the mature and all who believe should strive to learn sound doctrine because it helps them to discern between good and evil.

  7. Good and Evil in gospel terms is the division between a false gospel conditioned on the sinner and the truth that is conditioned on the cross of Christ alone. It is evil to preach and believe a gospel that is not by God's free and sovereign grace through the death of Christ.

  8. So, the Holy Spirit exhorts God's people to be diligent in learning and maturing in the doctrines of Christ-lest they run into the danger of apostasy. When the distinction between the true gospel and the false is blurred then
