The sermon brings to your attention this matter of false prophets because even in our day, many are being deceived and may end up suffering for eternity because of such people . In fact Jesus warned us , didn’t he? That in the last days “false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect – if that were possible” (Matthew 24:24).
In Jeremiah 28, we have an example of a false prophet called Hananiah.
A prophet is one who receives divine revelations in dreams, visions, or verbal communications; and passes these on to the people either orally or visibly in prophetic actions. Ex. 7:1; Deut. 18:18; Num. 12:6-8; Isa. 6; Jer. 1:4-10; Ezek. 3:1-4, 17. A prophet is appointed and speaks on behalf of God.
