TOPIC:The Man Who Could Not Come( Mark 10:17-31)
The rich young ruler(Mark 10:17-31) is a good example of how ignorance and sin can work hand in hand to prevent a religious person from knowing Jesus and receiving eternal life. The sermon considers two matters from this passage:-
1. The man who approaches the Saviour – something we can admire about him from the 3 passages that narrate the story (Matthew 19:16-22; Mark 10: 17-31 and Luke 18:18-23) .
This man seems to have everything one may desire in this life.
 In Matthew 19:20 we learn that he was a young man.
 All the 3 passages that tell us that he was rich – he had money. The ambition of many young people
 Luke tells us he was a ruler –He had power and fame.
 We are not done yet because we are told that this man was physically fit.
2. secondly this man, though admirable in many ways, was nevertheless very ignorant about important things. The sermon looks at 5 key areas of his ignorance:-
 Ignorant about Christ. The man did not really know who Christ was.
 Ignorant about Grace. He did not know that salvation cannot be obtained by our effort
 Ignorant about true life. He did not know that eternal life is glorifying God and enjoying Him forever.

Unfortunately this young consciously and stubbornly walked away from Christ.
Oh that is the sad reality that many young people are walking away from Christ to cling to the things of this world. This man had opportunity, though his question was cluttered with superficiality and selfishness. Before him was the great physician of souls. Indeed he is here to deal with us. Come to him and find answers to your questions and rest for your souls.
Amen
