Effective Christian Ministry - 1 Timothy 1:3-5

I. Ministry is a Stewardship and it is received from God…

A. It necessitates a high regard for the truth…

B. It is a “charge” so not optional…

  1. Not to teach differently
  2. Not to teach a new doctrine...

“It is worthy of observation, that we give the name of another doctrine not only to that which is openly at variance with the pure doctrine of the Gospel—but to everything that either corrupts the pure Gospel by new and borrowed inventions or obscures it by worldly speculations.” John Calvin.

C. A Serious Warning against additions to the truth…2 Timothy 4:4; I Timothy 1:7; 4:7; Titus 1:14
D. Consequences of error being taught...
“True faith cannot abide error—without damage.”

II. Effective Ministry's Aim
A. That which is required from God—here is a great responsibility…

  1. For preachers of the Gospel, I Corinthians 4:1-2
  2. For all elders in the church, Titus 1:7-9
    3.For all church members, I Peter 4:10-11

B. The Aim is Love…Philippians 1:9; I Thessalonians 3:12-13; II Thessalonians 1:3
We are not saved by love, but the proof of our salvation and the grace of God working in us is love…

III. Effective Ministry's Context

A. A Pure Heart…
B. A Good Conscience…
C.Sincere Faith…
