Spiritual Armor

Paul combined a picture of the battle gear of the Roman infantryman with a number of Old Testament images of God or his Messiah as a warrior. The cumulative effect of verses 13-17 is a picture of a people who are so caught up in the victory already won for them in Jesus' conquest of the forces of darkness that they are immovable in the face of threats against God's vision to establish a community that reflects his loving and holy character.
