When Christ makes clear that someone cannot serve both God and your stuff—your material wealth and resources—the Pharisees snort in contempt. Christ responds by bringing a heart challenge to them, identifying the present season and its pressing urgency, and then emphasising the enduring righteousness of the very law which the Pharisees claim to honour but actually despise.
