Failure to Take Possession

101 ( 76 | 25 )

The book of Deuteronomy covers a climactic moment in the story of God’s dealings with Israel. Moses is preparing this new generation whom he had led right to the very edge of the Promised Land to fearlessly take hold of the inheritance that God had promised them, in contrast to the failure of their father's generation to possess what God had given them.

We will only really grasp the significance of how grand and holy this calling is as we travel through the book. Over the next ten weeks we will seek to grasp something of the breadth of God’s word through Moses to Israel. But not just to Israel. But to all who by faith are united to Christ and are now also children of Abraham and inheritors of the promises.

It is true that through the coming of Christ these promises and laws take on a new shape and open up a larger calling than ever came to Israel. Nevertheless we will be blessed and equipped with a renewed vision of being God's people in today's world as we rediscover the roots of our own identity and calling as the people of God today.
