I Make a Covenant

In this passage, God is making a covenant with Israel different than the covenant where the Israelites promised to obey all things that God commanded. In this covenant, God promised what He would do. He covenanted the He would do marvels among the nation of Israel so that the nations all around would see the work of the Lord, because the things that He would do had never been done in a nation before starting with driving the tribes out of Canaan. Because God's presence was going to be among them and He had made a covenant with them, they were not to make covenants with the people of the land where they are going. They were to tear down all of their public signs of worship, so there would not be idolatry among them because God is a jealous God. If the idols were left there, the Israelites would act as harlots worshiping the false gods in the presence of their Husband. They would eat of their sacrifices. They would marry their daughters and in the end they would be led astray from God. They would do what they just did and worship molded gods. Then God reminds them of what they are to do, so the don't just turn from idolatry but that they turn toward God.
