The Anger of God
Series Series in Jeremiah (2014-2017)
Aim: To fear Gods—living in the reality of all that He actually is.
Doctrine: God exercises righteous wrath against sin. The Lord's anger, though impassible, is nonetheless real, and is only assuaged by perfect atonement.
Exegesis: The proper objects of God's anger: determined, brazen sinners (v. 9); rebellious, self-righteous sinners (vv. 10-12); and complacent, deceived sinners (vv. 13-15).
Further application: Godly responses to the Lord's righteous anger: we should agree with it, in humility, and recognize that without God's justice, there is no good in the world.
Key phrase: v. 11a ''Therefore I am full of the fury of the Lord. I am weary of holding it in. 'I will pour it out on the children outside, and on the assembly of young men together...'''
