In Name Only

In Jeremiah's day, the house of God had become nothing but a place of hypocritical show. The house of God, the temple, was worshipped, but the God whose house it was had been forsaken, His laws and commandments disobeyed and ignored, His ways neglected and abandoned. The outward show of worshipping JEHOVAH was kept up, and the claim that He was loved and reverenced was put forward zealously; but in truth all was a show and a sham. Jeremiah was called to rebuke the hypocritical show and warn of the coming judgment should real, genuine repentance not be exercised and evidenced.
