We don't realize how bad sin is and how ugly it is and how much it really grips who we are. We see it in some areas and in some ways it's obvious. There are things in our lives that we don't like but these are usually the sins with consequences that either embarrass us or we don't like the dirtiness of them. But the most dangerous sins are the ones that we don't even realize are a problem, the ones that don't really even trouble us, and this is what James is identifying, one of those.
