Satan #7: The "Boring Command" - To Stand!
Series Fighting Satan
31
Although the Apostle Paul uses the imagery of a Roman soldier throughout the spiritual warfare passage in Ephesians 6, he also draws on passages in Isaiah that speak of Christ as our Warrior. As we put on Christ, we put on His armor. One of the first commands is to put on the whole armor so that we can stand – a command that to our fleshy ears does not seem to go far enough (perhaps we think it should say “put on the whole armor so you can kill the enemy”). But standing is not passive. The idea is that we “stand like an oak against the winds of Satan’s lies that would sway us.” Finally, we look at the belt of truth, the foundation of our combat gear.
