Title: When God seems distant

Scripture: Psalm 77

A Psalm of Asaph. Asaph. Who was he? He wrote Psalms 50 and 73-83

What would The Lord have us to take from this passage of Scripture?

  1. God’s people experience suffering

*Notice who Asaph seeks in his day of trouble; The Lord. Asaph is very aware of and confident in the fact that God is the one who can truly provide help in his time of need.

**Again, he is so troubled that he cannot sleep. It is as if God is holding His eyes open, keeping him from resting, and he is unable to even speak. Have you ever felt this way?

***He thinks back to “the good old days”.

“Will the Lord spurn forever,
    and never again be favorable?
8 Has his steadfast love forever ceased?
Are his promises at an end for all time?
9 Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has he in anger shut up his compassion?”

So how does Asaph deal with his pain?
