On Whose Account Is This Trouble? (Jonah 1:5-10)

Main Point. We live at a time where the reigning world and life view of most people is materialistic determinism. In other words, the universe is a closed system with no external forces involved. This is contrary to the reality that we live in a universe governed and controlled by an external person, namely God. This latter biblical world and life view was held by the occupants of the ship recorded in our text. Thus the question that was on the forefront of everyone's mind was why were they suffering due to this "act of God". Which world and live guides your evaluation of the event in your life?
