An Overview of Revelation

890

A literal, grammatical, historical reading of the book of Revelation will result in having futuristic view of the events revealed. The details given to the apostle John in this revelation fill in details of Old Testament prophecies yet to be fulfilled. Blessings are promised to those who read, listen, and do what it says as they live with enlightened anticipation of what is to come.

The first section contains a glimpse of the glorified Christ among His churches. There is a series of messages to seven literal, earthly churches in existence at the time the revelation was given. What they are commended for and rebuked for reveals God's expectations of every church down through today.

That is followed by chapters four and five giving a glimpse into the throne room and the worship going on in heaven.

Chapters six-nineteen give details relating to the Tribulation also referred to as the seventieth week of Daniel. Seven years of tribulation during which three series of judgments, each having seven distinct phases will be poured out on mankind and all the earth.

Following the seal, trumpet, and bowl judgments will be the return of Jesus Christ to earth. Not until then does Christ establishes His kingdom on the earth in what proves to be the first phase of eternity. At the end of that kingdom, revealed to be one thousand years in duration, will come the ultimate defeat of Satan and all who have chosen to follow him, followed by their final judgment and sentencing to hell.

After that sobering revelation of the destiny of all rebels, there is a brief glimpse of the new heavens and new earth where God is once again seen dwelling among His people.
