A Night of Solemn Observation

30

After God struck the firstborn in Egypt, the children of Israel began to move out of Egypt and it was a large group, more than six hundred thousand men, between the age of twenty and fifty which is confirmed by Numbers 1. Based on their family sizes, the number of women and children would have been substantial as well for God had made them exceedingly abundant. But it was more than just the men and their families, there was also a mixed multitude that went with them. We know one of the mixed multitude was a man who had married and Israelite, but there were probably people from other nations that had been sojourning in Egypt that chose this as the time to leave since Egypt was destroyed. There would have been Egyptians who feared God and wanted to leave. The day that they left was exactly, to the day, four hundred and thirty years after God made the promise to Abraham in Genesis 15. God had appointed this exodus for four hundred and thirty years which is another reason why the Israelites were to remember the significance of throughout all of their generations. The miracle was not just that they left on the same day, but that they were able to get that many people including all family ages organized and moving in such a short period, especially when you consider that they had a large number of cattle with them as well. God had prepared them to be His armies plundering and leaving Egypt.
