1 John 2:12-14 is in stark contrast to what came before it. Up to this point in his letter, John has been dealing with false professions: 1:6, 1:8, 1:10, 2:4, 2:9. At this point, however, he takes time to reassure his readers of his confidence of their salvation (in contrast to the false professors). John is sure his readers are genuine.
