God's Witnesses
34
There is a precious saying, 'Then they shall know that I am the Lord'. We live in a world where God is largely unknown. That grieves the Christian as it grieved Christ. He is the light of the world to make God known to men. Part of that work is sending his apostles, those who had witnessed the Son of God on the earth, to tell their story. Their message is the church's sacred trust. We also have our own story, about the effect the gospel has on us and the reality of Christ in our lives. Christ has given individuals to the church as evangelists, as he has given pastors and teachers. But the Christian has a general duty and privilege of witnessing to the reality of God in Christ. Love for God and man impels us, and the Spirit enables.
