THE PRECISE TIMING
“the hour has come” – refers to the death of Jesus and what immediately preceded it
THE PETITION
“glorify your Son...” – in the case of Jesus it meant a reinstatement of what he had (left) – v. 5!
THE PURPOSE
(a) “that the Son may glorify you...” – this was Christ’s ultimate concern

living as a human being brought the Son to share “man’s chief end”!
(b) “...that he may give eternal life” – the way he would glorify the Father!
v. 2 takes us back to the authority given to the Son before the creation
within this authority is the Son’s grant of eternal life to those given to him
(c) “this is eternal life...” – this is Christ’s definition not John’s comment!
to “know” God is to live in a personal relationship of friendship with him!
“the only true God” means that serving every other “god” is idolatry!
“and Jesus Christ” – he alone is God’s “Agent” and our Mediator
