It may not seem that we’re in Romans but invariably you just have to go to Genesis when you get to Romans 5:12, because if you don’t, you miss part of the meaning of this passage. Genesis 3:22 says, Behold! The man has become… What has the man become? And of course, to answer this question you have to go to several other passages.
