God Delights in Jesus

96

If one person in your church was chosen to judge everything about your life on the coming Sunday, and that judgment would be final, surely there would be no one at the service the next Sunday. This world is so performance fixated that it is natural for people to fall into the trap of thinking that that is the way if works with God too. Paul shows that the problem with that is that no-one has an acceptable record of performance. If we could understand the holiness of God, we would understand how dreadfully we fall short in our sin. Clearly we all need to be justified, but we can't justify ourselves. We need God's righteousness. And isn't it astounding that God is actually giving this righteousness to people who can't justify themselves? God Incarnate earns a human righteousness that God is giving away to wicked people. Sin makes it hard to believe two things: that we are as sinful as God says we are, and that we are as righteous as God has made us. If you are conscious about any point of failure in your life, would you rather stand before God on the basis of your record of performance, or on that of Christ? Saving faith sees Jesus. That ability to see is from God and it is called faith. Satan loves to hand you a mirror when you are discouraged. Am I right now, seeing that God completely accepts me because he completely accepts Jesus?
