A Call To Holiness

134 ( 118 | 16 )

We live in a day of political, religious and cultural turmoil. Nothing is going to get fixed unless the Lord fixes it. The reason our nation is in turmoil is because they have made void thy law (Psalm 119:126). We could look at "they" and how "they" have made void thy law. But Peter makes clear that judgment must begin at the house of God. People outside the church have made void God's law, but what about us? In Romans 13:12, Paul says let "us" cast of the works of darkness and let "us" put on the armor of light. If the Lord is going to do a work in the nation, He will ultimately need to do a work in us. So in this message, we want to look at the call to holiness made by the apostle Paul

Paul's Call To Holiness

  1. He tells believers to cast off the works of darkness
  • Paul is writing to believers when he tells them to cast off the works of darkness
  • Paul is including himself in the call to let us cast off the works of darkness
  • Paul goes onto list out this darkness:
    (1) sins of excess ("rioting and drunkenness")
    (2) sins of lust ("chambering and wantonness")
    (3) sins of anger ("strife and envying")
  • Paul sums it up by telling believers not to make provision for the flesh
  1. He tells believers that we are to put on the armor of light
  • This hearkens back to the armor of God is the book of Ephesians
  • This is equivalent to putting on the Lord Jesus Christ'
  • He is our wisdom and we are complete in Him
  • The pursuit of holiness is not a trip we take by ourselves
  • It is true that Paul ws the chiefest of sinners, but he was also a do as I do preacher
