1 John 2:29-3:3 (1 John 2:29-3:10)

Introduction

· The Gospel is Not a “Life Insurance Policy”

· The Gospel of Christ is Power of God to Salvation (Romans 1:16)

· The Father Must Draw the Sinner To Christ (John 6:44, 65; Ephesians 2:5; John 3:5)

I. Born of God to Practice Righteousness (vs. 29)

· “Since we Know Christ is Righteous” (vs. 20-21, 1; 3:5; Zechariah 9:9; Acts 3:14; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 1:8-9 – “just” equals “righteous”)

· Practicing Righteousness – A Evidence of being Born of God (Ephesians 2:1-3, 10)

II. Two Reasons Motivating The True Believer to Practice Righteousness (vs. 1-3)

· Thankfulness in Being Called Children of God (v. 1; Romans 5:8; Ephesians 2:1-5; Hosea 1:10; Romans 9:24-26; Titus 3:5-6)

· The Unregenerate Man does not know God, nor the Children of God (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; John 15:18-19; Romans 8:6;

· The Hope of Being Like Christ in Heaven (vs. 2-3)

· “Not Yet Revealed What We Shall Be” (v. 2a; 1 Corinthians 13:12; Exodus 33:20-23; 2 Corinthians 3:18; 5:5-8)

· We Shall See Him, For We Shall See Him As He is (v. 2b; 2 Corinthians 5:6)

· In This Hope in Christ that a purifies Himself, as He is Pure (v. 3; Hebrews 9:26; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Corinthians 15:50-57; Heidelberg Cat. #’s 88-91)

Conclusion and Application

· Consider the Greatness of God’s Love-Not Take it for Granted – Purify Ourselves from the World and Sin

· Put Off the Old Man of Sin; Put on the New Man of Righteousness by Faith to the Glory of God
