Compassion and the Preaching of the Gospel
111
The second part of Jonah is often overlooked but shows a great example of God's compassion, and Jonah's lack of it!
He was so selfish that he was more concerned with the loss of a plant shading him than the loss of over 120,000 people in the city of Nineveh. He actually prays to God in 4:1-2 complaining of God's compassion! He wants to see Nineveh wiped out.
Jesus shows great compassion in Mark 6:34 during the 'feeding of the 5,000'. We should learn from his positive example (and Jonah's negative example) and seek to be more compassionate people.
