The Problem of God

192 ( 142 | 50 )

"He is not a tame lion," wrote C. S. Lewis concerning the great lion, Aslan. This week we learn something of what Lewis meant as the Lord teaches both Israel and the Philistines that he is not some lucky charm or a trophy which can be put on the shelf or kept in a box. He is the Lord of hosts! He is sovereign, powerful and holy– able to break his adversaries into pieces and make his way 'back home' all by himself. Even in the joyous celebrations at the return of the ark, as he draws near to his beloved, his holiness demands reverence and awe. No, he is not a 'tame lion,' he is a consuming fire, Lord of all. What wonder then, that he invites us to 'draw near to his throne with confidence.'
