Alternatives to Obedience

Aim: To hear God's word, and respond in faith-filled humility.

Doctrine: There is no escape from the consequences of sin. Sinners must wake up now, or suffer dearly. We either stand and fight, or flee and die.

Exegesis: The options for determined rebels: try to run away from God (v. 1); try to trust in self (vv. 2-5); try to resist in the flesh (vv. 6-8).

Further application: The believers' proper responses to God: to heed divine warnings and seek divine mercy.

Key verse: v. 8 ''Be instructed, O Jerusalem, lest My soul depart from you; lest I make you desolate, a land not inhabited.''
