New Covenant Church: Importance of Church Membership 1 (Why is it done)

The description of the birth of the New Covenant Church in Acts 2 gives us an opportunity to look at the Scriptures to see the obligation and the privilege of every Christian to seek to be actively and officially joined in membership with a local church of Christ.

This sermon, then, is the first of two that look at the Testimony of Christ (Heb. 2:9-13; Matt. 16:18-19; 18:15-20; Rev. 1:11-20), the Testimony of the Early Church (book of Acts), and the Testimony of the New Testament (next sermon!) to show the centrality and necessity of the local church for every Christian. And from these testimonies it is clear that some form of official, formal membership in an identifiable, biblical local church is necessary for the Christian.
