SANCTIFICATION & CASUISTRY
Definition
“It is a progressive work of God and man, which makes us more free from sin, and conforms us more into the
likeness of Christ, in our present life” ~ Grudem
SANCTIFICATION & CASUISTRY
DO & DONT'S?
1-Sin is “any lack of conformity to, or transgression of, God's Law”
- Sanctification deals with sin, NOT preference
2-What is “sin” for one believer, it's not always “sin” for all. - Example: Romans 14 , 1 Corinthians 10
3-Consequently, what “works” for me – in pursuing sanctification – may not necessarily “work” for you - Example: 1 Corinthians 7 (Paul's celibacy)
4-The “rule” is God's Revelation not man-made traditions - Colossians 2:14-16 , 1 Timothy 4:1-2 , Mark 9
5-God is the Judge…not us. Standard is Bible.
APPLICATION
1-Biblical imperatives must be built upon Biblical indicatives
2-Biblical indicatives lead to Biblical imperatives
3-We must plant the cross first and last
4-We should find accountability partners in case of inveterate sins
5-We must first flee and then think
6-Sin must be avoided before it is too late
CONCLUSION
Salvation is a gift from God - nothing believer does can add to or take away from His work
