Historical Evidence - 50-51 AD
Series Book of Acts
There is a lot of historical evidence for the events that are recorded by Luke in Acts 18:1-17. Roman history confirms that Gallio was the proconsul of Achaia, that Emperor Claudius expelled the Jews from Rome; biblical history corroborates that the people described are real, including the synagogue rulers Crispus and Sosthenes, the tentmakers Aquila and Priscilla, and Paul's companions Silas and Timothy. Moreover, we have the record of an ancient letter written by Clement, bishop of Rome (88-99 A.D.), to the church in Corinth, where he confirms Paul's relationship with the Corinthians and his communication with them. What does that mean? We can trust the Book of Acts! It is authentic history! Moreover, when we consider the origins of the church in Corinth through the proclamation of the gospel by Paul without lofty words, we get another confirmation that these historical markers fit the story recorded by Luke.
