How many times have you been tempted to "pull rank" in the church when dealing with an issue of personal preference? Some of the arguments you play in your mind may sound something like this;
"I have been in Christian service longer than all of you, so you should do what I prefer."
"I understand theology more deeply than any of you, so you should do what I prefer."
"I am older than you, so you should do what I prefer."
"I come from a family line of outstanding missionaries, so you should have enough respect for me to do what I prefer."
"I am more gifted than anyone here, therefore you should do what I prefer."

All of these self-justifying arguments, and more, are laid to rest by Paul's two arguments in the first thirteen verses of this chapter.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
