Rightly Dividing the Word

In 2 Timothy 2:14-18, Paul speaks of avoiding wrangling about empty words-----fruitless discussions and arguments that lead to the ruin of the hearers. We are to present ourselves to God with diligence, rightly handling the Word and avoiding foolish talk that leads only to further ungodliness. This is an easy sin to fall into in our day, where foolish talk is the mainstay of schools and the workplace. Paul also warns us to avoid false teachers (such as Hymenaeus and Philetus), who preach that the resurrection has already taken place.
