To Your Old Age

37

This part of God's Word mentions two experiences that are common in Christian life. One is fear of the future. The other is discovering God's faithfulness through events we never expected. The prophet foresaw the destruction of Babylon and its idols - unthinkable to its victims. He ascribed it to God's faithfulness. We may make the mistake of thinking that God has forgotten us. Not so, says Isaiah. Indeed the fact that God has made us in creation and regeneration is reason to expect he will uphold us to the end. 'Even to grey hairs will I carry you.' That promise should shape our prayers and expectations. He calls us to remember what he has done in the past. He calls us to listen to his promise for tomorrow.
