Interpretive Issues

259

This second introductory message considers various interpretive issues that are critically important to a right approach to John's gospel (as well as the other gospel accounts). Unfortunately, because John's gospel is commonly used as an evangelistic tool, Christians often treat it in isolation. Not only is it not read alongside the other three gospel accounts, it isn't situated within the larger New Testament. But worse still, it is read and interpreted without any consideration of the Old Testament Scriptures - the Scriptures which John and the other gospel writers treat as finding their fulfillment and meaning in the person and work of Jesus of Nazareth.
