Two ways to get it wrong. One is to be so set in your ways you won’t even listen to and consider and opposing viewpoint. The other is to simply accept what someone says because they say it well and sound intelligent.

There is an element in here that depends on humility.
In the church we have another issue; we don’t want to deal with conflict or debate in our thinking because we want so badly to preserve “unity”.

Unity comes from a common goal and a core set of beliefs, as well as the admission and understanding that we are all growing and learning, or not.
I’m guilty of thinking, “maybe I won’t preach that part, because it will only fire up controversy.

Sometimes controversy is necessary.
