03 - Searching for ‘The Seeking Sinner'

175

I have just stated that I have never come across ‘the seeking sinner’ in Scripture, and yet I have also recognised that there are at least 350 biblical references to ‘seek’ or one of its derivatives. So let us have a look at these 350 biblical references. Of that 350, the vast majority have no relevance to the question in hand. I am defining ‘the seeking sinner’ as a regenerate-but-unbelieving sinner who is seeking to be saved, or seeking for God to give him faith, a new heart, or somesuch experience. I am not talking about somebody who is looking for a man, a place, water, donkeys, shelter, a coin or whatever. There are many such references in the Bible. They have no bearing on what we are talking about. Then again, many of the remaining references refer to believers seeking God – in the sense of praying to him, enquiring of him, waiting upon him, worshipping him, trusting him.
