Zechariah Speaks of the Last Day

408

I. A New Testament Interpretation of verses 1-2

Jerusalem was the OT center of worship. The church is the NT center of worship.

Revelation 19:6-9 -- Ephesians 5 is the passage where the marriage of a husband and wife is compared to the union of Christ and His Church.

Revelation 21:1-3 -- The Church of God-- with the Saints of the Old Testament – one unified people – being represented as dwelling in the New Jerusalem – which is compared to a bride.

II. The Lord Fights for His People 3-5

III. In That Day 6-7

The fact of no night makes us think of the eternal state of Heaven. Rev. 21:22-27; 22:5

IV. The State of the People of God “in that Day” 8-10

The living waters of verse 8 make us think of the Lord Jesus Christ and the gospel promises – especially of John 4 to the woman at the well – and in John 7& 8. Rev. 22:1

V. The State of the Lost “in that Day” 11-15

This is very much Old Covenant language. See Lev. 26:16 and Deut. 28:22
The New Testament puts it in a different light. Rev. 6:12-17; Rev. 19:17-21

VI. Missionary Work as Envisioned in the O.T. 16-21
