Why The Evil One is Called The Dragon, Serpent, Devil and Satan

In our culture a person's name tells us nothing about his character, but in Biblical times it often did. For example, when the Lord changed Abram's name to Abraham, He changed the meaning to "father of many." When he changed his wife's Sarai's name to Sarah, He changed the meaning to "princess." BTW, Sarai means "argumentative," so you can imagine how happy Abraham was to hear of the change!

Why is the Evil One called four names in the one verse of Rev. 20:2? Each name describes his character. You will better understand Scripture when you know what his names mean. And you will be better able to submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.
