A Declaration of Dependence

381

'We do not sufficiently consider what is implied in the stupendous fact of creation from nothing; and how utterly dependent a creature must be from the nature of the case...A watch is very dependent upon its maker; and we cannot conceive of its bringing the watchmaker under obligations, or in any way becoming a 'profitable' servant to him deserving of thanks,' said Presbyterian theologian W.G.T. Shedd. America's founders recognized our utter dependence upon our creator, but today we are telling God, in mumerous ways, that we don't need Him. We don't need Him in our courts, our halls of government, our military, our schools, etc. We are relegating God to the position of one who should be spoken of only behind closed doors on Sunday mornings.
