Sanctification: God's Great Plan for the Believer (2)

145

Conversion brings a whole new dimension of power into our lives. Through the Holy Spirit working in a person, they are born again and become a new creature. They are given a whole new nature, different to what there was before.

Conversion changes everything. So, in Romans 6:11, we are to think about the difference that the Lord Jesus Christ has made to our position, for thinking spiritually like this has power in and of itself to move us away from our old ways and into the paths of holiness.

We have a choice. We are not compelled to be holy but have to actively choose and will to do the right thing. There is a choice as to the use that we put our tongues, our hands and our feet, our eyes and our ears to. The enemy within still speaks and makes bad suggestions to us. The sinful nature finds excuses and justifications for our sin.

Now we have a new nature and new power that comes with that nature through the Holy Spirit. We now have the power to do the right thing, if we should choose to do so.

God's will for us in this is clear. He would require us to always choose the way of holiness. That is the pathway that is in line with His own character, His power and with the new nature, given birth by the Holy Spirit, that the believer has.

So, what are we going to do? What are we going to choose? Are we going to follow in the old way of the old man, what we were before we were converted? Or will we follow the way of the new nature, the new man, where the power of the Holy Spirit is working to produce holiness within and in what we do in the body? We have no excuses. Conversion gives us the power to choose what is right.
