The LORD Has Cut in Pieces the Cords of the Wicked

199

When the Lord Jesus Christ was engaged in His earthly ministry, He encountered sometimes violent opposition. As we know, this reached its climax with the false accusations and conspiracy which brought about the crucifixion. In a moment of instruction of the disciples, He told them that if the world persecuted Him, it would most certainly persecute them and those who would follow Christ after them. (John 3:20; 15:18, 19) When the apostles taught the church, they did not neglect to remind us that we are subject to the same opposition – even persecution. But this truth should not cause us to despair or give up. On the contrary, the Lord has promised to defeat the wicked and preserve us, His people. Though the wicked are usually also the most powerful in worldly terms, the Lord has declared to us that He has "cut" their cords. The greatest act of fury against the Lord and His Anointed was, by God's overruling providence, the salvation of the world. (Acts 2:23, 36) Their raging power was nullified and so it ever will be. And the Lord will punish those who defy Him. – Pastor Schlegel
